Balance and Falls Prevention

A fall can be dangerous at any age and balance issues are often an underlying root cause.  Deficiencies in balance can be addressed through the guidance of a therapist and customized balance exercise programs.  Programs such as the Otago Program—a proven fall prevention program—work to improve strength and balance and reduce the risk of falls and related injuries.

RVNAhealth offers balance assessments and therapy programs in patients’ homes and at the RVNAhealth Rehabilitation & Wellness Center in Ridgefield, CT.

What Type of Therapist Would I Work With?

Physical and occupational therapists are both trained and available to assess balance using evidence-based tests.  The therapist’s goal is to explain root causes of balance issues and create programs to address muscle strength, balance, flexibility, and reaction time.

Our Approach

RVNAhealth offers a comprehensive evaluation to assess balance and determine risks and address root causes for falls. These services are offered both in-home through our home health services and outpatient at our Rehabilitation & Wellness Center. Customized treatment programs may include balance challenging exercises, walking challenges, strength training, and maybe even the Wii! Therapists are trained in the Otago Program which has been proven over and over to reduce fall risk.

Balance assessment and falls prevention therapy in the home may be accessed through a physician referral. Outside the home, at our Rehabilitation & Wellness Center, therapy may be obtained with a physician referral or through Direct Access, without a physician’s referral.
