If you chose RVNAhealth for your flu shot last year, or travelled recently to an exotic locale and received your travel immunizations from RVNAhealth, then it’s distinctly possible that you already know our Community Health Nurse Manager, April Rodriguez, RN.
April delivers wellness and prevention through RVNAhealth community programs — and adds in a healthy dose of calm, competence, and kindness to keep everybody safe and sound.
Where did you grow up?
Stamford, CT.
When did you decide you wanted to become a nurse?
I wanted to be a nurse since I was a child. Finally when my third child was 3 years old, I had the opportunity to go back to school. I’ve been a nurse now for 13 years and with RVNAhealth for two.
What is your favorite part of nursing?
Being able to make a difference in someone’s life.
If you weren’t a nurse, what would you be?
If I weren’t a nurse, I would still be working in the health field to help people.
What do you love to do when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time with my children, doing yoga, learning something new, going to movies, or just spending time with friends.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
If I won the lottery, I have a list of people in my head who I would like to help, but I think my main focus would be on doing something to help homeless families. We don’t realize how fortunate we are to have warm clothes and a house to keep us warm when the temperature is unbearable outside. We don’t know what it is like to be so hungry you take food out of the garbage just to eat. With all the food and money in this world, no one should have to experience homelessness.
Do you have a favorite nursing moment or story to share?
Too many to choose just one.
