Myrlande

Myrlande, CNA

Caregiver

Hometown: Bridgeport, CT

About yourself: I have been a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) since 2011.

Why and when did you choose your profession? Since I was 10 years old, I told my parents I wanted to be a nurse. Growing up, all my teachers always said, “Mimi, you’re going to be a beautiful nurse,” because of the way I behaved and helped people around me. So I traveled to the USA and started working.

I took the CNA class so I can be part of healthcare because I love helping people that can’t help themselves.

Kate, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist

Hometown: Resident of New Fairfield, CT, originally from Skaneateles, NY (One of the Finger Lakes!)

About yourself:  I enjoy hiking, kayaking, biking, staying in shape, painting, and time with family — especially my granddaughter!

Why and when did you choose your profession? I knew I wanted to do something that could help people, and I loved how I could combine my creativity, problem solving and love of medicine in this profession. OT was a perfect fit.

How has COVID affected your role? I have always tried to be a little ray of sunshine and hope for my patients. But right now, more than ever, I feel like that’s what I try to bring to them. A little bit of hope, of connection, laughter. I hope it’s healing, when everyone is feeling so cut off from one another.

Cindy

Cindy is a passionate advocate for making sure patients’ wishes – small and large - are honored. An obstacle families are grappling with during COVID-19 times, she says, “So many are feeling the loss of being able to give a hug, that most simple of human gestures.” Continue reading

Marie, BSN, RN

Marie had her chance at an office job. When she started at RVNAhealth, she worked in quality assurance and performance improvement. But you know what? She missed the field - missed her patients. Missed helping people directly. This spring, Marie is doing just that - caring for home health and hospice patients and bringing her calm and strength right along with her. Continue reading
