Tell us a bit about yourself: I love my family with my whole heart. They live in Rhode Island and I miss them especially during this time when I cannot see them. I love cooking (all types of food, and I love to try different recipes and switch things up), singing (I’ll sing all day if I could) and dancing (It helps me relieve stress!)

When and why did you become a nurse? I had already earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology, but I wasn’t sure that being a psychologist was my calling. I always knew I was supposed to go into medicine, care for people, and help as much as I could, so in 2012 I signed up for an associate’s nursing program. I am currently in a BSN-to-MSN (master’s) program.

Where do you see patients? In the Southbury, Roxbury, Bridgewater, Woodbury and Oxford areas. The facilities include The Watermark of East Hill and Pomperaug Woods. The nurses and their dedication to their residents are amazing.

What is a favorite moment/time from your career as a nurse? My favorite moments are always seeing my patients happy with their care and staying healthy. I also enjoy when the family pretty much says that you are part of the family now. It means a lot when they can trust you that much.

What are some things that might surprise people about being a nurse? It’s not easy. Being a nurse doesn’t just encompass one aspect of care. You have to wear many hats, and it takes a toll on you emotionally and physically. In the end it’s an amazing profession, and even though it does take a toll I can’t see myself doing anything else that would feel this rewarding.

How has your job changed with COVID-19? Having to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) all the time is different. We have always followed the safety precautions to the highest standard, but now we have to make sure we are extra diligent when providing care. Also, I am used to face-to-face care, so telehealth visits are new and different. Otherwise, we still provide the best quality care that we can in whatever circumstance.
