Sponsored by Abbott.  Join RVNAhealth’s Parkinson’s Center as we welcome Dr. Christopher Conner and Dr. Chindhuri Selvadurai, UConn Health, to learn more about Parkinson’s and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).

Dr. Conner will discuss how they treat Parkinson’s disease: how the diagnosis is confirmed when a person has Parkinson’s, current treatments for Parkinson’s ( medications, diet, physical activity, etc..) , surgical treatments available, Deep Brain Stimulation and focused ultra sound, who is a candidate for these advanced treatments, surgical work flow for both , outcomes,  and how the DBS ( electric medicine) works by drastically reducing the symptoms of Parkinson’s resulting in a much better chance of quality of life with the reduction of medication. Will discuss how the DBS system is programmed, battery life and having the DBS programming done in the comfort of the patients own home remotely.

Dr. Christopher Conner, UConn Health

About Dr. Christopher Conner
Dr. Christopher Conner is a new UConn Health transplant recruited to expand the deep brain stimulation program. Originally from Montana, he trained at the University of Texas with Dr. Albert Fenoy during residency, where he participated in DBS cases for Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and dystonia and was an integral part of a world-leading trial for depression. He then worked with DBS pioneer Dr. Andres Lozano at the University of Toronto before finding his way to Farmington. He is excited to work with the expanding neurology team led by Dr. Neha Prakash to bring this wealth of experience to Connecticut. When not working, he and his wife, Chelsea, enjoy cooking, scuba diving, and hanging out with their retired racing greyhound and two cats.

 

 

Dr Selvadurai UConn Health About Dr. Chindhuri Selvadurai
Dr. Selvadurai is a board-certified neurologist specializing in movement disorders. Her clinical interests include Essential Tremor, Parkinson’s Disease, and botulinum toxin (Botox) for movement disorders. She is also involved in medical education of students and residents. A Connecticut native, she is a proud graduate of UConn School of Medicine and is thrilled to return to the institution where she began her career in medicine.
