Making People Feel Safe and Heard

This is the reason Jennifer Taborda gave when asked why she chose nursing.

“I needed to find a career that allowed me to help educate others to heal and find ways to better their health. I wanted to help people reach goals to care for themselves and to put my desires into action and be able to find fulfillment in my work.”, says Jennifer.

Jennifer received her Registered Nurse license from Columbia Greene Community College in Hudson, NY in 2013 and has been on the move ever since.  Filling roles from NICU nurse, to private boarding school nurse, and Health Coordinator for Head Start in Florida, Jennifer found herself at Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) at RVNAhealth just over a year ago.  “I had never found something that would make my choice of becoming a nurse feel so right one that could truly bring me passion in my field until discovering NFP.”

“I had never found something that would make my choice of becoming a nurse feel so right one that could truly bring me passion in my field until discovering NFP.” She said.

Her official title may be Registered Nurse, but Jennifer goes beyond this for the NFP families she cares for.  You could even say she serves as a personal coach and mentor.  In fact, her favorite part about working with families is when her NFP moms include her in not only their babies’ growth, but their own milestones such as graduating, receiving a driver’s license, or furthering education.  “I love being that safety and security for my moms and moms to be.”, says Jennifer.  When asked what her favorite memory at NFP has been so far, Jennifer shared, “My favorite memory has to be when my client just looked at me and said, ‘Can I please have a hug?’. That was by far the best day I had. I was able to make this mom feel good, even if just for the moment, when she was struggling with so many factors.”

When she is off the clock, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family and pups.  After a long day of work, she sometimes takes a drive to Lake Waramaug to watch the sunset.  Jennifer has a deep passion for traveling, especially when beaches are involved.  “[I] hope to see as many beaches as I can before I am unable to anymore”, she explains.  Alongside her passion for catching waves, she also loves to bake.  Making everything from breads, cookies, cakes, pies, to French macarons.  She even aspires to eventually combine her two passions by opening her own bakery style food truck by the ocean one day!

Jennifer’s favorite piece of advice to give to new mothers is: “It is okay to say you are tired, hungry, overwhelmed, need help, or need a minute.  Self-care is just as important to your baby as it is to your own self.”
