StayWELL Private Duty Nurse (previously Hospice RN)
Hometown: Danbury, CT
About yourself: I have three children, one granddaughter and another grandchild on the way! I am currently working towards my master’s degree, at Western Connecticut State University. I am focusing on the nurse practitioner role, and should be done in about two more years. I am an avid traveler and have dual citizenship in the U.S. and Ireland.
Why and when did you choose your profession? I was previously in financial services and operations, but I always wanted to be able to help others. So I earned my second degrees in nursing, and eventually became a nurse on an oncology floor. I joined RVNAhealth as a hospice nurse in 2019. In July 2020, I joined the StayWELL team, as its first private duty nurse.
Being a hospice nurse was an honor because it’s extremely intimate. You are privileged, as a stranger, to be allowed in the patient’s house when they and their family are most vulnerable. Many people are afraid of hospice, but the truth is that we are here to honor the patient’s wishes.
People do not necessarily realize how many medical needs and treatments are not covered by insurance. Private Duty Nursing enables us to serve patients needing help with services such as medication management, pre-pours and administration, routine injections not covered by insurance, elective surgery recovery, and ventilator, trach, or feeding tube care, to name just a few. This new role calls upon my entire 10 years of diverse nursing experience. I look forward to utilizing that experience to offer excellent care, compassion, and support to patients and their families.
