Randy Seewald, MBBS, MD, FASAM
Hospice Medical Director
As Hospice Medical Director, Randy Seewald, MBBS, MD, FASAM is responsible for ensuring that every patient’s care wishes are honored, their care goals are achieved, and the RVNAhealth Hospice team is supported.
Alongside Hospice Associate Medical Director Kaye Hale, MD, Dr. Seewald assesses patients’ eligibility and plans of care. They order medications, make home visits and answer any questions the hospice team might have regarding patients’ medical care. Both also coordinate care with community physicians, nursing homes and other facilities, while also acting as educational resources in the community.
“The most rewarding part of my job is being able to work with and learn from the interdisciplinary hospice team to provide compassionate and family-centered end-of-life care,” says Randy. “We are a creative, new hospice program, and we are creating a culture and systems to achieve the highest quality of care.”
Prior to joining RVNAhealth in December 2019, Randy was hospice medical director at Regional Hospice in Danbury. She was also involved in starting the inpatient hospice program at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven. She was previously part of the teaching faculty for the Palliative Care Fellowship training program at Lincoln Hospital, where she was director of the program to address substance and an addiction medicine, pain medicine and palliative care consultant. She is an addiction specialist, with an interest in pain management and end-of-life care for substance users.
Originally from the UK, Randy received her medical degree from the University of London, and completed an internal medicine residency at New York Downtown University (now NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital). She completed her mid-career fellowship in hospice and palliative care at Beth Israel Medical Center. She is board certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative medicine and addiction medicine.
She lives in Briarcliff Manor with her partner, his son and their dog, Otis. She enjoys walking and hiking with them and her two millennial kids, and when time allows, gardening, skiing and traveling.
